Focus and Scope

ICONARP as a free, open access, academic e-journal considers original research articles and viewpoints in peer-reviewed.

Architecture, Planning and Design are strongly affected by other disciplines such as fine arts, philosophy, engineering, geography, economics, politics, sociology, history, psychology, geology, information technology, ecology, law, security and management. However, there are not enough academic journals which specifically focus on the connections of architecture, planning and design with other fields of science. ICONARP aims to fill that gap. Our scope is to provide a suitable space for theoretical, methodological and empirical papers, which use global and local perspectives together, in architectural and urban studies.

ICONARP aims to be a reputable platform for the studies of Architecture, Planning and Design.

ICONARP's objectives are:

  • To question global and local interactions in the field of Architecture, Planning and Design,
  • To discover the relationship between Architecture, Planning and Design,
  • To increase the contribution of Architecture, Planning and Design to social and behavioral sciences,
  • To discover the relationship of Architecture, Planning and Design with other fields of science that are affected and affect,
  • To develop theoretical and methodological foundations of Architecture, Planning and Design,
  • To discuss the role of architects, planners and designers today and in the future,
  • To compare the differences between architecture, planning and design research, practices and education in different countries,
  • To bring a scientific view of current issues and discussions in field of Architecture, Planning and Design,
  • To discover innovative methods and techniques in the field of Architecture, Planning and Design.

Peer Review Process

  • All submissions will be double blind peer reviewed.
  • All papers are expected to have original content. They should not have been previously published, nor be under simultaneous consideration by another academic journal.
  • Prior to the sending out to refrees, editors check that the paper fits with the mission statement of the journal.
  • The journal seeks minimum two independent refrees. All submissions are subject to a double blind peer review; the identity of both the reviewer and author are always concealed from both parties. If one of refrees gives a negative feedback on a paper, the paper is sent to another refree. If the paper takes again a negative feedback from the new refree, this means that the paper will not be accepted to the journal.
  • All submitted papers and refree reports are archived by ICONARP. Submissions whether they are published or not are not returned.
  • The editorial board decides to publish a paper in the journal according to refree reports. If one of refrees offer some corrections to a submitted paper, the paper is sent back to the author. It is required for authors to make corrections in their papers within the prescribed time.
  • Authors who want to give up publishing their paper in ICONARP after the submission have to apply to the editorial board in written.
  • Papers out of ICONARP’s writing and style guidelines are not received for consideration.
  • Authors are responsible from the writing quality of their papers.
  • ICONARP will not pay any copyright fee to authors.
  • A signed Copyright Assignment Form has to be submitted together with the paper.

Publication Frequency

ICONARP is published 2 times per year (June, December). Accepted papers are published online after completion of double-blind peer-review process. ICONARP is an e-published journal with e-ISSN: 2147-9380.

Open Access and Transparency

Quality and transparency is at the heart of what ICONARP does.

ICONARP has strongly adopted the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing set by DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals).

This journal will NEVER:

  • Ask authors to pay a submission fee
  • Ask authors to pay an APC (article processing charge) for OA publication prior to acceptance
  • Publish works in exchange for gifts or money
  • Falsely claim to represent another person or entity
  • Use your data without consent.

This journal will:

  • Ensure your published paper is double-blind peer reviewed
  • Ensure accepted works are published, hosted and made discoverable via the ICONARP OJS platform
  • Assign DOIs to accepted work and preserve the published version of record via digital preservation archiving schemes (LOCKSS)
  • Act in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in dealing with matters of ethical misconduct.

ICONARP is an Open Access Journal which presents its content freely for online researches with the aim of contributing to the global exchange of knowledge. ICONARP believes that providing free online access ensures a wider spectrum of research base and reading rate to develop the related literature.

Open Access (OA) provides unlimited access and reuse opportunities which make research publications freely available online. The open access therefore creates the network for reaching the widest possible audience, sharing the entire works and building upon them. The main goal of ICONARP is to contribute the culture of scientific publications in the field of Architecture, Planning and Design.

ICONARP supports the definition of ''Open Access'' according to Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) which is:

Its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.
